His talk is titled “Entrepreneur – A fancy word for unemployed… and fun” his talk teaches us to plan for the worst but not to bank on it. Through sharing his personal story, he encourages others to follow the passions they have and make a career out of it.

David R. Hedt grew up on a farm in the South East of Australia he has traveled the world, working as a mechanic, truck driver, harvester, a farmer and business owner in Australia and the US. He has dabbled in real estate and investment properties, he started a bicycle shop in Australia with a fellow Australian he meet while travelling to Canada. During his travels he found Faulkton, South Dakota and fell in love with the land and the people. In 2013 Hedt Built the Faulkton Retail Center, a $1,000,000 project that provided the opportunity for rural business to have quality retail space in a prime location. Hedt’s extensive knowledge of American agriculture combined with his Australia upbringing helps him see the substantial market opportunity in the US for this product and provides him with an incredibly stable platform for development. These things are what took him down the road that ultimately became Walkabout Developments (Bin Division), LLC.

  1. 'onya dave. I liked your comment about (co)owning 5 businesses in varying degrees of success. In australia I reckon we're too quick to judge entrepreneurs (and entrepreneurs judge themselves) on their success alone. Like you said, they're adventures, they're learning experiences, and they're rewarding. I suspect the idea of taking risks and building something new is embraced much more in nth america. Hopefully the culture in oz really comes around to that too. take care!
