Awesome Tip: #AskGaryVee Episode 79: Pencils of Promise, Business Reviews & Television Advertising
#QOTD: How many of you ACTUALLY watch television commercials?
#TIMESTAMPS
1:16 – What is your “but” and how do you get off of it? What’s the biggest ‘but’ you hear from others that’s holding them back?
5:03 – Is there value in a brick & mortar riding social trending topics to get engagement on their Facebook page, even if the engagement is coming from people way outside their marketplace?
6:58 – This summer I am biking across Canada for Pencils of Promise and documenting daily videos on YouTube. What other jabs could I use so I am not just right hooking for donations?
10:13 – How do we deal with reviews that could impact our business?
13:08 – When will social marketing spending be bigger than television commercials?

The amount of “buts” I hear is actually stunningly overwhelming. I pride myself on not being a but guy (no double meaning intended). The buts that I hear the most are “I didn’t have any money”, “I didn’t have a chance”, “I grew up in a poor neighborhood”, “I didn’t have a mentor”. People are loaded with buts in life; that’s why the majority of people fall into a standard life.
For me personally, my “but” is usually that I love the process and the climb. If I don’t achieve the maximum upside in my career, it’s going to be predicated on the fact that I loved the climb too much. I liked the grind too much, and that didn’t allow me
to scale and create the level of wealthy needed to pull it off.
But I do hear way too many “buts” from people. But is an excuse.
BUT … 🙂 before I finish with my ra-ra scenario, let’s understand that there is some very real stuff going on in the world. You could be born in a part of the world where there is a dictator or communism. Do I think it’s easy as to be a female entrepreneur in the Middle East as it is to be in New York City? No. Of course not. Just like any white male born in a semi affluent environment is bound to have a leg up on minorities in poor communities.
But there is a flipside to this. The hustle that you get from coming from the grind is a huge advantage. Some people think you’re dead on impact, that you have to stick with the restrictions you’re born in; that if you’re born into a bad situation, you’re bound to fail. But I think being born into luxury is worse because everything comes so easy and you don’t know how to get anything.
It all comes down to how you operate and how you look at the world. But I will tell you this: I hate excuses. I hate them with all my heart. When something is wrong with VaynerMedia, that’s all on me. I love taking that blame and not passing the buck. I take pride in taking the blame. Stop making excuses and work.

Question of the day I keep it mostly Netflix so no ads
Idk i dont walk around trying to break the odds
I just unplugged my tv, the first time 13 years ago, it disappeared around 10 years ago. I then had a girlfriend who really wanted it so I eventually got a new tv and subscription, and I did listen to music on it, but after her, I just cancelled again… That tv has been standing idle here for now over 7 years…
I seriously love how many people are writing that they have no cable, and don't watch tv!! 😉
Show feedback I don't like the intro music the track itself is fine it's just nowhere near as fitting as powerful as the one before.QOTD: I rarely watch tv commercials, I watch most shows / movies from Prime or Netflix and news on YouTube – I don't watch sports.
QOTD Answer – I actually dont watch TV…. everything I watch is either in the computer or cel.

I haven't Watch TV at Home at Home since I was in High School 08-12! I still watch TV sometimes in sports bars or when I'm on the road in my phone but I usually none.

I never watch adds on TV. The only adds that I do watch are on the banned South African Nando's adds, as they are just the best.
No commercials but I don't have cable as of the last 6 months. Apple TV is all I need 🙂
It's horrible to watch episodes like these knowing the disgusting Patriots won the Super Bowl in the 2015 season :/
#QOTD never. I only watch TV when there is soccer and in the break between first halve and last halve I have 15 minutes to grind!
I totally still watch commercials, just not all of them, only the funny ones. 😛 #garyvee #qotd #ask
#QOTD: Never
Never.
Never
Gary! i have been re-watching all your #AskGaryVeeshows and would just like to say that working out is paying off!! Looking great and keep bringing the insperation and motivation. #TeamGV
Hello…GARY! 😀 awesome episode! Really enjoyed listening to it on my way to work. I actually just pulled over to comment — i don't even own a TV since 2009. I am not poor, nor rich, but i just don't see the ROI of it. Cheers, Daniel
QOTD: I do all I can to avoid TV Commercials. #AskGaryVee Ep 79
#QOTD Nope, straight onto the smartphone.
Although we do have a show dedicated to advertising down here that's hilarious, I do enjoying watching #Gruen!
#QOTD For me to watch a TV commercial it has to be something that I am already invested in. Have it be a new show, a game release, an upcoming UFC fight. Now, once I have seen this commercial it has to be ridiculously grabbing for me to ever watch it again. #3 Crimson Peak, Halo 5, Anything Ronda Rousey
I honestly think it's MAYBE 10% of tv viewers who actually pay attention to the commercials.
I grew up in the 70's and 80 and I kind of like commercials; not because they interrupt my shows but occasionally they can be entertaining (Where's the beef!?).
Almost 1year without TV, don't waste time 🙂
@***** I really really really wanna now what's data cald on 9:44, please let me know
Our family is pretty commercial and I gotta tell you it minimizes my kiddo's case of the 'gimmes' all the time. I will say though how 'sneaky the game apps are – my daughter plays a game where if she clicks to watch commercials (like for Sanderson Ford) she gets free lives in the game!
Zero commercials for me..I don't even have cable. Between Netflix, Hulu and Amazon prime, I don't have a need.
I'm watching this during the commercials as I chill on a Sunday watching tv with the hubby…
I don't even have a TV 😮
#QOTD I never watch television commercials. I don't even own a cable box. I consume what I consume on Youtube and Netflix.
Why'd you change the theme music? Digging the guitar riff but the "knowledge is power if you have the right hook" lyrics were always on POINT
